There are many essential aspects to consider when you decide to go live, but the main thing to keep in mind is that your lighting needs to be ideal. Many live streamers are not aware of the importance of lighting, which ranks up there with having quality video and sound.
Make use of daylight
Working with natural daylight is the best way for you to achieve optimal lighting results. We know this may seem obvious, but you need to make sure that you are in an area with shade. Filming directly under the sun will not create a good result, as the light would be too strong. An excellent way to use daylight is to film under a tree or the shaded side of a building. There is enough shade for you to be clear from direct sunlight, but the light is still strong and clear.
Use soft white lighting on your face
There is no need to use intense light on your face when recording any video. You can use a desk lamp, but the best way to do this is to have two desk lamps. This means you would have one for each side of your face. Just make sure they are appropriately aligned to avoid any shadows on your face or uneven light exposure. Or you can make use of a Selfie Ring Light. They’re inexpensive, immensely popular, and do the trick.
Never use a top light source as your only source
You need to avoid doing this because it will cast a very creepy shadow on your face. This is not a look that you want to have when you are talking to your audience, so make sure that any light above you is countered with light in front of you to avoid those shadows.
Never have intense light behind you
When you have any intense light behind you, such as an open door that leads outdoors during the day, you will get a terribly blinding effect that will make it seem like you are glowing. If you are going to have any light behind you, it should be soft.
Instead, consider standing or sitting facing the door or window with sunlight to allow the natural light to touch your face.
Measure the perfect distance for the perfect lighting
Some people will set their lighting up and look great, but they will start to move back and forth and their lighting will be affected by this movement unless the whole room has the same intensity of light.
This is why you need to mark where you are supposed to stand or sit and avoid moving too much unless you are using sunlight. Natural light solves that problem in most cases.
Final thoughts
Some people have a hard time creating an excellent setting to record their videos, but it only takes a bit of experimenting for you to achieve the results you want and need.
